I recommend it. This product works very well and the best one is its portability with a portable computer, the only thing to which I am not customary does not emit the sound and not when the connected east.I consider that it is a good investment by the price. Orlando
It only takes a few minutes to download and register, and then you are good to go. If you need a longer cord or damage the original cord, that component is cheap and easy to replace. Speed was decent for dial-up. The booklet that comes with this device assumes you have a PC with a CD-ROM drive. It has a protective cap for the male USB plug so you don't smash it in your luggage.
I bought it to provide access to dial-up internet service in areas with no wireless hot spots or high-speed data ports. The reality is that all you need to do is to go to a place with wireless or high speed service, visit the web site at www.trendnet.com, and download the appropriate driver. I used the modem at an early fifties house with the original conventional telephone line, and had no problem. It comes with a phone connection cord that is about five feet long. I bought this external modem for use with an Eee PC netbook, that has no CD/DVD drive.
The booklet incorrectly states that one of the system requirements is a CD-ROM drive. It is very light, very small, and easy to transport for traveling.
I've ordered just a few things at Amazon, but have had absolutely no problems with anything. I wish I had, for the extra $35 it cost me ($70 repair total at the shop), we could have gone out to dinner. Comes with software disc. To make a long story short, my rural dial-up modem got fried by a lightning hit ON THE PHONE LINE from a storm that was way in the distance but got me anyway. So save yourself about $35 labor charge and try one of these. I had researched it on an old computer I still have that was still good to get on the net, and did originally find this product.
I was just unsure to try it. The dial-up quit and retries showed phone modem error. My laptop computer has Windows Vista. I'm pleased with it. At the repair shop, I was first told the modem board could be replaced on the underside of the laptop (too much $ for labor time, though); or that a card could be put in the card slot on the side; the final repair actually consisted of the very product shown here for the USB port. I'm a computer novice, but I have to endorse this product, even though I ended up paying twice as much to have it installed at a computer repair shop.
This bypassed the fried modem, and is working just like the old connection did. I blame my own lack of enough knowledge about how this would have worked, I could have done this myself.
I'm considering freeing one of my desktop's expansion card slots and buying another TRENDnet 56K USB modem. I'm amazed that so much power can fit within such a miniscule component. I'd give it 6 Stars (or higher).if I could.
Trendnet's customer support was no help (giving scripted answers that correspond to problem, with no knowledge of what they're talking about). Nice little USB modem - if it had only worked. I was not able to get online using dial-up with this modem. Returned product to Amazon (& received refund) after eliminating all other possible reasons for being unable to connect.
